Family time

PSCC leads the initiative for a more walkable, bikeable, boatable river.

The river beckons. It’s another gorgeous morning, afternoon or evening. Take the family down to the water… This is our vision; to build “The Floathouse” Small Craft Rental Center in the turning basin so that every day can be a day on the river for your family. Next, with your help, we’ll build the Community Boathouse, a home for us all, where every human-powered watercraft enthusiast is welcome, where we can convene, store gear, work out, invite visitors onto the water, and enjoy “Petaluma’s largest park”. Thanks for helping give Petaluma families access to our most prized natural resource by helping us build Petaluma’s Small Craft Rental Center and Community Boathouse!

Today, you can access the Petaluma River in your own or rented human-powered boats and on paddle boards from only a few locations, none of them terribly convenient: the Marina, the public docks of the turning basin, or the River Heritage Center for once-a-week (Sunday) boating with volunteer staff. When we’ve succeeded in building permanent access facilities for our community, Petaluma can truly call itself a “river town”.

Who benefits from river access?

Wanderers, voters, birders, swimmers (sometimes unintentionally!) Cyclists, community leaders, water contemplators, kids! Picnickers, collegiate competitors, friends, mud-lovers, tide observers. Rowers, ecologists & biologists, canoeists, businesspeople. Hikers, fishermen and women, homeowners, kayakers, environmental advocates, fitness enthusiasts. Naturalists, coaches, photographers… and what about you?
